What are sustainable traffic signs?

Duurzame verkeersborden zijn verkeersborden met een lagere milieu-impact dan een standaard aluminium bord, zonder in te leveren op veiligheid, reflectie of levensduur. Ze voldoen aan dezelfde normen als traditionele borden en worden net zo geplaatst.

Climate Signs offers three types: signs made from 100% recycled aluminum, bio-based signs made from renewable raw materials, and refurbished signs, in which the existing sign is given a new graphic surface.

Are sustainable traffic signs just as safe as regular traffic signs?

Yes. All Climate Signs signs are CE-certified and comply with NEN-EN 12899-1 and NEN 3381, the same standards as traditional signs. They are just as visible, sturdy, and weather-resistant.

What are sustainable traffic signs?

Sustainable traffic signs are signs with a much lower environmental impact than signs made from new aluminum. Climate Signs offers them in three varieties: made from 100% recycled aluminum, from biobased material (Type 1 with a honeycomb structure), and as refurbished signs, in which an existing sign is given a new faceplate.

Where are Climate Signs’ traffic signs made?

In the Netherlands. Local production ensures shorter transport distances, lower emissions, and reliable delivery times. All varieties are available from stock.

How do I demonstrate CO₂ savings in a bid?

Climate Signs provides a life cycle assessment (LCA) for every product. This allows you to substantiate the CO₂ savings in your sustainability report and factor them into the award decision. Using the CO₂ calculator on the website, you can get an estimate of the number of signs you’ll need in advance.

What is the difference between a recycled and a refurbished traffic sign?

With a recycled sign, old aluminum is melted down and processed into a new sign. With a refurbished sign, the existing backing board remains intact and is simply fitted with a new display surface. Refurbishing therefore requires even less energy and keeps the material in the cycle.

What signs are required for a charging station?

Public charging stations are usually marked with an E8c parking sign featuring a supplementary sign that reads “Electric Vehicle Charging.” The municipality designates the location in a traffic ordinance. Climate Signs supplies these signs in a sustainable manner and, through its partner Via van Dalen, also installs them.

Can you guys put up the signs, too?

Yes. Installation is handled by our partner, Via van Dalen in Eemnes, which has its own VCA- and BRL9101-certified teams. You’ll have a single point of contact from delivery through installation.

Can I have my old traffic signs reused?

Yes. With refurbished traffic signs, your existing sign is fitted with a new sign face, allowing the sign frame to be reused. Signs that are no longer usable are sent for recycling.
